Cosmos is a plant native to Mexico that was introduced to Europe in the 19th century. It is distinguished by its light, openwork foliage and large white, pink, or purple flowers.
In manor gardens, cosmos were planted in naturalistic summer flower beds, where they gave lightness and movement to the compositions.
They quickly became popular in rural homesteads due to their unpretentiousness and long flowering. They were often grown near fences or at the end of nurseries.
In urban areas, cosmos is used in decorative greenery and natural-style flower beds.
Today, they are valued for their long flowering period and ability to attract butterflies and bees.
