GLADIOLUS (Gladiolus imbricatus)

• Perennial bulbous plant
• Decorative
• Blooms: June–August.

Common gladiolus is a natural meadow plant in Europe, distinguished by its erect inflorescences and bright pink or purple flowers. It is considered one of the wild relatives of cultivated gladiolus.

In manor gardens, gladioli were valued for their upright inflorescences and elegant appearance. Later, ornamental varieties began to be created from them.

In rural homesteads, gladioli are more often grown as flowers suitable for bouquets.

In urban areas, it is used in decorative flower beds and for picking.

Today, common gladiolus is considered an important historical ornamental gladiolus species.
