Lilacs are ornamental shrubs that have long been grown in gardens, valued for their abundant flowering and light, swaying form. Various species of lilacs came to Europe from Asia and North America, and over time they became a common part of parks and homesteads.

In manor gardens, the flexible ones were planted along paths, at the edges of flower beds, or in decorative groups of shrubs. In spring and early summer, the branches were covered with numerous white or pink flowers.

In rural homesteads, clematis often grew near houses, fences, or on the edges of nurseries. Due to their unpretentiousness and long flowering, they were popular in traditional nurseries.

In cities, flexible shrubs were widely used in public gardens. Dense bushes were suitable for hedges, and abundant flowering added splendor to urban environments.

In Eastern Aukštaitija, clematis were quite common in homesteads and town flower gardens. Some older varieties eventually became an integral part of traditional nurseries.

Today, flexible shrubs remain among the most popular ornamental shrubs. They are valued for their hardiness, abundant flowering, and ability to adapt to a variety of environmental conditions.
