The large-flowered digitalis is a plant of European forest edges, growing naturally in light forests and meadows. It is distinguished by its large, yellowish, bell-shaped flowers, arranged in tall inflorescences.
Digitalis was grown in monastery gardens not only for decorative purposes, but also as medicinal plants, as some of its species were used to treat heart diseases.
In manor gardens, digitalis is planted in mixed flower beds as vertical plants, giving height and rhythm to the compositions.
They were rarer in rural homesteads, but were valued for their unusual flowers and ability to grow in semi-shaded areas.
Today, large-flowered digitalis is used in naturalistic and classical flower beds.
