SAKHALIN REYNOUTRIA (Reynoutria sachalinensis)

• Perennial
• Ornamental, large-leaved plant
• Blooms: August–September.

Sakhalin renutra is a plant of Far Eastern origin, distinguished by its extremely large leaves and tall growth. It was introduced to Europe as an exotic ornamental plant.

In manor parks, renutras were planted as "exotic" plants, giving the gardens a tropical feel. They usually grew near water or in larger open spaces.

It is less commonly grown in rural homesteads, but has spread in some places due to its rapid growth and decorativeness.

In cities, they were sometimes used to landscape large areas, but over time, aggressive spread was observed.

Today, the Sakhalin redneck is considered an invasive species in many places.
